Vision

The workflow from idea to product in the pharmaceutical industry is for some a clear-cut procedure, for others an indefinable network of tasks. This is a process of constant change. Today, everyone looks at least a little bit forward and backwards. The medicinal chemists wants to know if his compound survives ADMET, and if the compound can be easily synthesized. The Toxicologist simulates data for compounds that are in the planning stage, and tests compounds that are ready to enter clinical studies. Some processes are well understood and become standardized. 

SAP has realized the same idea in the business area and promises industry a standardized and optimized workflow. In the beginning of the information age people demanded that the computer mimics their manual processes. In the last ten years, with the exception of the scientists, people in industry have realized that it is better to adjust the workflow to well designed computer applications instead of implementing obsolete processes.

The vision is that industry will adapt standardized applications that optimize the workflow in preclinical and clinical research.

Strategy

Since there is no comprehensive discovery product on the market for the pharmaceutical industry, we provide standard tools from MDL Information Systems and other complementary sources together with consulting and custom programming to customers of the pharmaceutical industry. MDL invented and developed as first company most of the tools that are needed to manage the information in a comprehensive discovery product. MDL is slow to merge its products into a comprehensive frame work, as for instance SAP did with its software. MDL was always present and  partner when the needs of the industry shaped and defined today's workflow. Some people at MDL, like Francis Benett are perfectly able to translate this workflow into computer applications.

The strategy is offering customer  the "discovery product". This is not a self installable software, consists of many different products and needs some additional programming. However, all the parts and the know-how for implementation are available. This will always be a multi-vendor, multi-program environment. Important, the technology is available to integrate the different tools.
